If you’re like us, you love to gift wrap new toys and place them under the tree for your dog. Yes, this isn’t for everyone. Just us who madly smother our furry ones with unimaginable amounts of love.
Some pups love anything and everything you will give them. Some pups even make their own toys out of things they shouldn’t play with (like the pair of slippers I lost this year). And some pups can be very picky about their toys.
How do you decide on the toys you select for your dog? Do you take them into the store and let them pick out something for themselves? Do you just grab something cute-looking, that might even be more for you than for them?
I have plenty of experience in bringing home gifts for pets. From time to time, I have brought home a dud. However, I have learned a helpful tip.
What does your dog love more than anything else in the world? YOU!
Therefore, it’s a safe bet that your dog would most likely be interested in toys which smell like you, his/her very most favorite thing in the entire world.
The next toy you bring home, try leaving it in your dirty clothes hamper for 24 – 48 hours before giving it to your dog to play with. This way, your scent will be left on the new toy, and your dog will likely be intrigued.
I’ve tried this method for the past year, and have yet to experience another dud gift. For us, it works!
I know that dogs have different personalities and interests. Not every to dog will like chew toys, squeaky toys, plush toys, or indestructible toys. However, if you have experienced a dud gift in the past, give this method a try.
As always, I’m interested in feedback. Please let me know how it goes.
Happy Holidays to you and your pets!
