Tales from a Dog Walker…
As a professional dog walker, it is our job to pay attention to the details, no matter how small or insignificant they may seem. We thoroughly examine each dog when we arrive for our walk, and we thoroughly examine them again after. On each walk, we work hard to eliminate distractions; Therefore we don’t play with our phones, iPods, tablets or anything while we are responsible for our client’s safety. You never know when a speeding car, a loud motorcycle, or a loose dog may come our direction. We have to be aware of EVERYTHING.
For example, here in the desert area of Scottsdale, we deal with rattlesnakes and coyotes. Many times I have avoided a coyote attack by simply being aware. We have some clients who have told us stories of their dogs being attacked and killed while still being on its leash. Coyotes are incredibly dangerous. We sometimes have to carry mace along on our dog walking appointments.
On occasion, I have been able to dodge the dangers of a rattlesnake because I thankfully wasn’t using an iPod, which would not have allowed me to hear its rattle, indicating its presence. Yeah, it’s a scary situation, but it’s a reality. I always wonder why so many people think that anyone who is a dog lover could be a dog walker. Then, we always have clients who find us after using some amateur. Their stories may have different situations and involve different pets, but they all end in serious disappointment and sometimes tragedy. Just sad outcomes with the death or injury to a pet which most certainly could have been avoided.
Pet Owners: When it comes to the well-being of your pets and home, DO NOT trust an amateur. Your dog deserves to be cared for by a professional. Not just one who is licensed, bonded, insured, etc. But also, one who does this for a living. Pet care is our livelihood. It’s what we do day in and day out. One simple mistake could cause us not only our job, but our entire business. Therefore, we do not make mistakes. Keep your pets happy and healthy, and give yourself the peace of mind you deserve.
Remember, Professionals Only, please.
Thanks for caring!
