“There is no love quite like the love of a dog.”
A dog will love you unconditionally. To your dog, you are the greatest thing in the world. Nothing you do could ever change that.
Twenty years ago, there was a popular song by the band Tesla, called ‘What You Give.’
The song was written by the vocalist, Jeff Keith about his Beagle who had recently passed away from health complications due to old age. The song, written from the dog’s perspective, actually ties deeply into canine psychology and the raw emotions of a dog.
The opening lyrics: “Who’s the one that makes you happy? Who’s the one always on your mind? Who is the reason you’re living for? Who’s the reason for your smile?” Is really spot-on when it comes to how dogs think. You are the most important thing to your dog. YOU are what makes them happy. Loving you is what makes them happy, and that is why YOU are always on their mind.
I won’t get into the discussion of separation anxiety, but most cases of separation anxiety begin because of the emotional attachment your dog has to you. When you walk out the door to leave for work, run errands, or leave for vacation or a work trip, your dog is wondering if it will ever see again. It may be a disturbing thought, but it’s true.
As a loving pet parent, I am always concerned that I cannot do enough for my dogs to ever repay them for the love they give me. You know the feeling when you walk through the door, and you see the tail wag crazily like a windshield wiper on high. Your dog running to greet you with sloppy, wet kisses. And the pure joy in those loving eyes. How could anyone ever top that?!
It has been said, “The only fault of a dog, is their short lifespan.” I could not agree more.
Are we doing enough for them? Are we making sure they have the healthiest diet? Giving them the best vet care possible? Walking them multiple times daily to improve their physical and mental health? Hiring the best pet sitters and dog walkers to keep them happy and healthy, and care for them when we are not able to?
Your dog has dedicated its life to you. Make sure to return the favor.
As any dog, or Tesla, can tell you: “It’s not what you’ve got, it’s what you give.”
Thanks for caring!
