Have you ever heard the old saying ” the name makes the man?”
Well, the same can be said about dogs.
I have had the pleasure of working with more than 1,000 dogs. Out of all of those dogs, not one of them had the name Fido, Spot, or Sparky. All names which were extremely popular back 50 or 60 years ago when dogs were seen merely as pets. They were typically left to live outside in a pen, a doghouse, or much worse, tethered with a chain around their necks. Each being no way for a dog to live.
Today, dogs commonly have more friendly names like Charley, Jake, Molly, Maggie, Emma, Barry, Sammy, Lucy, Spencer, Hank, and Shelby. I think this is a result of us evolving as an animal-loving society.
We have come to recognize that dogs are not just pets, they are true friends and family members. People aren’t naming something that will be living inhumanely in the back yard. People are naming their best friends, or their pet-kids. You may not think of your dog as your best friend, but you certainly are its best friend. You are what your dog thinks about when it wakes up in the morning until it falls asleep at night, and probably what it dreams about as well.
You will have plenty of other things in your daily life: Work, friends, family, errands, school, television, music, hobbies, etc… But your dog only has you.
It’s nice to know that we have finally evolved into a society who recognizes the important role dogs play in our lives, and sees them for the magical little beings they truly are.
So give those little ones the great, big hug they deserve, and tell them just how much you love them each and every day… Because they deserve it!

Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of this blog.
